About Melissa

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides the highest quality client centered psychotherapy and counselling services.  I thoroughly enjoy working alongside all individuals, couples and families, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and ability. Every individual I have the opportunity to meet carries with them a collection of unique experiences, thoughts, beliefs, values and goals. As humans, we all have periods in our lives when we think, “things are not how they should be” and this may lead us to a place where we may not be feeling like ourselves.  I genuinely believe that you, as a client, are the expert at your own life, but sometimes, even experts can use a little fine tuning- this is one of the functions of therapy!

As a therapist, but first and foremost, as a human being, it is my promise to you, that I will walk with you through the difficult and joyous chapters of your life and through therapy, will help you re-establish the goals that you envision for yourself.

I hold a Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto, where I specialized in the study of mental health. I received an Honors Bachelor of Science degree, also from the University of Toronto, where I studied neuroscience and psychology.  I have had the pleasure to have worked in clinical hospital settings, community settings, private practice and clinical research for the past ten years.

I am a firm believer in the connection between the mind and the body.  When I am not working with clients in a psychotherapy setting, you may find me teaching fitness classes, as this is one of the things that I do to take care of my body and mind.

One of my greatest joys in my everyday life is to help clients make sense of their experiences through helping clients gain deeper insight and understanding into their experiences. I use a variety of different therapeutic approaches including, but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (skills), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention.

As an experienced therapist with over ten years of experience, I promise to provide you with the highest quality service that is tailored to your specific needs.  No two clients are the same.  I relish the opportunity to empathically engage with you on your journey, as we strive together to promote recovery, rehabilitation and hope.
